  • MS Science Faculty

    Position Overview
Graland Country Day School is seeking a middle school science teacher to work closely with students in grades 5-8. A successful candidate will be an experienced teacher who understands school environments and the unique needs of middle school students. This candidate thrives when working collaboratively and is skilled at working with students, faculty, and families.
The middle school science curriculum at Graland taps into the natural curiosity of middle schoolers while also focusing on critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills through a host of hands on activities. Students become increasingly adept at making astute observations, employing data and evidence to make informed inferences and predictions, and at considering multiple methods and perspectives when choosing likely solutions to complex problems. Whether they are engaged in dissections, calorimetry, a slingshot lab or crushing balsa wood towers, these young scientists learn to rely on both their growing creative resourcefulness and on increasingly disciplined thinking. As students grow in their scientific capacity, they are able to manipulate variables in experiments of their own design, experience an enhanced connection to the natural world and become empowered to clearly communicate complex and nuanced scientific ideas. Graduates should be able to think both analytically and creatively, possess the innovative skills to apply new solutions to real world problems, and be better prepared to think critically about scientific issues facing our future.
